Town Council Elections
04 March 2013
Elections for Berwick-upon-Tweed Town Council will be taking place on 2nd May, when all current town councillors will stand down. Nomination packs for candidates standing for the new Council will be available from Monday 11th March.
Nominations open on Monday 25th March and close at noon on Friday 5th April.
There are vacancies for 16 councillors on the Town Council, representing seven wards, and this is the first election since May 2008, the year in which the Town Council was created.
Town Clerk Sue Finch said: ‘The Town Council is the most local part of the democratic system and is closest to the people. It has a wide number of powers which could enable it to get involved in a whole range of local services and facilities.
For anyone with commitment and passion about their community, this is an opportunity to help make a real change for the better. For anyone wanting to know more about what's involved, there is information on the Town Council website, www.berwick-tc.gov, or staff at the Town Council office will be happy to help.'
The nomination packs are available from the Town Council office, and can be collected between 10.30 and 12.30, Monday to Thursday, or at other times by making an appointment on 01289 30239. The electoral register can also be viewed t the Town Council office, as candidates and their proposers will need to check their polling district and elector numbers.
