Berwick Portas Pilot
14 January 2014
Expressions of interest are being invited from local businesses and community groups, to help manage Berwick's Portas Pilot.
Berwick-upon-Tweed Town Council has been tasked with taking forward the scheme, and allocating the £100k prize awarded by Government to Berwick to use in initiatives to kick-start a revival in the town centre.
The Council is setting up a management group to look at projects which will build on the work already started by Berwick Town Team Limited, promote trade in the town centre, improve quality and service and improve the environment. The aim is to support projects which will help fill empty shops, attract more visitors and increase footfall in the town centre.
The group is expected to include representatives from local businesses, local community groups and the Town Council, and to bring to the table experience in one or more of business development, tourism, retail, project delivery, funding applications, budget management and marketing.
Councillor John Robertson, Chair of the Environment and Regeneration Committee, is inviting both individuals and representatives of community or business groups to express their interest in getting involved. Councillor Robertson says ‘All those interested are asked to provide their contact details, and set out the skills they can contribute, on no more than a page, and email this to admin@berwick-tc.gov.uk by 31 January. The plan is to have the management group in place by 14 February'.
