Council Finances Given a Clean Bill of Health
17 June 2014
Berwick's Town Council has been given a clean bill of health by independent Seahouses Accountancy Services, appointed to carry out the internal audit inspection required by every parish and town council.
The internal audit is in addition to the external audit carried out on behalf of the Audit Commission, and looks in detail at all the Council's financial procedures.
The inspection concluded that the Council's financial regulations and accounting procedures are satisfactory, and complimented Council officers on the quality and completeness of the accounting records.
Reporting to the Council's Finance and Resources Committee, Councillor Stephenson, appointed Chair of the Committee, said: ‘As expected, independent inspectors have once again found the Council's financial procedures to be thorough, robust and transparent. We are confident that the government-appointed auditors will confirm this in their own assessment next month.'
Members of the public can see full details of the Council's expenditure on its website, and in accordance with the audit regulations, the annual accounts can be examined at the Town Council office between 30 June and 25 July, on days and at times advertised on the town's notice boards and on the Council's website, www.berwick-tc.gov.uk
