A new hospital in Berwick
23 June 2016
Northumbria Healthcare are giving people in Berwick the opportunity to see updated plans for a new £25million hospital in the town.
Following community engagement earlier this year, they are inviting the public to view the proposals at an event in July.
The more detailed plans giving people a clearer picture of how the scheme will look when built will be on show at the William Elder Building, 56-58 Castlegate, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1JT on Friday 1 July between 3pm and 7pm and Saturday 2 July from 9.30am to 1pm.
The redevelopment of Berwick Infirmary will provide purpose-built, modern facilities to deliver hospital services to the local population and improve the integration of health and social care provision in the area. As part of the plans, Well Close GP practice will be based on site.
Northumbria Healthcare have appointed the Newcastle office of national planning, design and economics consultancy Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP) to progress the planning application.
At the event, the public will have the opportunity to speak to representatives from Northumbria Healthcare, NLP and the design team and have their say before a planning application is submitted to Northumberland County Council later this year.
Subject to planning permission, building of the new hospital on the site of the existing Berwick Infirmary is scheduled to start in summer 2017 and is anticipated to take place over a three-year timeframe.
