Guild of Freemen
Freedom Admissions
Berwick-upon-Tweed's Guild of Freemen dates back to at least the 12th century, though their records are only extant locally from 1505. The Town Council, under an arrangement with Northumberland County Council, administers the Freedom Admission ceremonies held quarterly. The Freedom ceremonies are held in Berwick-upon-Tweed Town Hall. The introductory information and application forms can be downloaded here:

- Tuesday, 30 September 2025 (11.00 am) (apply at least 4 weeks in advance)
The deadline for receiving applications for a ceremony is four weeks before the date of the ceremony (five weeks for the ceremony in January).
